Clinical
Research
Research involving
human subjects is crucial to improving the ability to provide the
highest quality
health care.
Knowledge acquired through clinical research improves our understanding
of health care, particularly as it relates to the recovery from
illness or injury, or managing a chronic condition or disease.
Ethics
Approval for Research
All new clinical
research studies considered by VHIF must first be approved by the
Therapeutic Products Directorate (TPD) of Health Canada and/or the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). All research done through
VHIF is also reviewed and approval by the Clinical Research Ethics Board (CREB) of the local health authority.
Only after the CREB issues a Certificate of Approval will the new
trial be coordinated through VHIF.
